CADF Dentist in the News

Brushing your teeth at least twice a day sounds like a mundane task — Did you know it can help save your life? For “Health and Medicine,” Victoria Maranan braved the dentist’s office to learn more about how dental health impacts a person’s overall well-being.

Donor Spotlight: Dr. Max Kerr

Dr. Max Kerr is the owner of Vista Ridge Family Dentistry in Cedar Park.  In practice for more than 10 years, the graduate of the Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, was recently nominated for an “Austin under 40” award in the area of health care.
Last year, Dr. Kerr surprised CADF by making a generous gift to our Amplify Austin campaign. His gift helped us exceed our fundraising goal and raise much needed funds for charitable dentistry in our community. When we asked Dr. Kerr why he gave, his answer was quite moving:
“I believe the smile is a communication of love and joy from the soul.  When someone cannot smile due to decayed, missing or painful teeth; he or she loses the ability to communicate their unique gift to the world.  This discordance creates a negative self-image that ripples through all aspects of an individual’s life.  We all know that it is very difficult to love the people around you if you find it difficult to love yourself.  Through my support of CADF, I wish to ignite a feeling of pride and self-worth to those that need it the most.”
Will you join Dr. Kerr on March 2-3 to Keep Austin Smiling? Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 in honor of CADF’s monumental 10 year anniversary.  To schedule your gift today, click here.

Welcome 2017!

Immediate CADF Past Chair, Dr. Alan Moore and current CADF Chair, Lyda Creus Molanphy

It’s only been about a few weeks, but 2017 is already shaping up to be a banner year for the Capital Area Dental Foundation.  Not only are we laying the groundwork for another fabulous year serving the community, we will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary, a milestone for a growing nonprofit foundation like ours.

With your generous support, in 2016, we provided a record-breaking $265,00 in compassionate oral health care to more than 1,200 patients.  Through our Golf Classic and Gala, we raised over $236,000 for charitable dentistry.
This coming year, we are committed to serving even an even greater number of people in need. With your continued support, we will do this by:
  • Recruiting more dentists to treat more patients in need.  Join our One Smile campaign now and commit to treating just one patient this year. Or email our program coordinator, Katie Trent  for more information about our different programs.
  • Exploring opportunities with our partners to host a one-day dental event to serve large numbers of patents in need in the Austin area.
  • Participating in Amplify Austin on March 2-3, 2017 to raise the funds needed to continue running our programs.

Let’s continue to dream big and open our hearts to the community.
Happy New Year to you and yours!
-Lyda Creus Molanphy, CADF Chair

Volunteer of Quarter: Dr. AnnMarie Olson

Congratulations, Dr. Olson!

The first woman to serve as the president of the Capital Area Dental Society and a former CADS Young Dentist of the Year, Dr. AnnMarie Olson, has made her mark on organized dentistry in many ways.  She has also given her time and talents as a CADF dental volunteer and supporter.

Dr. Olson served on the CADS Board when CADF was being formed nearly ten years ago.  “I am so proud to see how far CADF has come,” she says. “It’s wonderful to see CADF being recognized outside of dental circles in the larger community for its good work.  We are a great example of how volunteers can really get things done.”

Dr. Olson’s practice, which includes CADF Board Member, Dr. Kacie Culotta, is an active participant in the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) Dental Program.  She estimates that her practice sees at least one HAAM patient each day and she wouldn’t have it any other way. “We love participating in HAAM.  I was in high school and college band, and I’m now a choral singer, so I feel a kinship with our HAAM patients.”

In addition to being an active volunteer dental provider, Dr. Olson is a founding member of the Sustainer’s Circle, CADF’s Annual Giving program.  “I’ve seen all the good things CADF has done to help people and joining the Sustainer’s Circle is a great way to give back,” says Dr. Olson.

“CADF is a great vehicle for sharing our blessings.  It’s truly an honor to be a volunteer and a donor.” AnnMarie Olson, DDS
