CADF Dentists Rebuilding Lives

CADF dentists are rebuilding lives one patient at a time.  Volunteering with CADF is truly a life-changing experience–for both the dentists that provide the care and the patients that gratefully receive it.

CADF Welcomes New Board Members

The Capital Area Dental Foundation is proud to welcome the following four new Board members:

  • Mr. John Fidler, Patterson Dental
  • Ms. Melinda Perrier, Regions Bank

CADF Welcomes New DDS Program Coordinator

The Healthy Smiles for Texans (DDS), one of CADF’s signature programs, changes the smiles—and lives of low-income elderly and disabled Central Texans.
Supported by the generosity of individual donors and a grant from the
RGK Foundation, DDS is a shining example of Central Texas dentists giving back
to the community.

This Spring, CADF welcomed a new program coordinator for the DDS program, Tiffany Honaker, who also oversees the St. Vincent de Paul program.  Tiffany
matches CADF dentists with patients in desperate need of dental care.  Although new to the job, Tiffany is no stranger to the world of charitable care and volunteering. She got her first taste of volunteering after joining the Junior League of Bell County.  “It was very eye-opening for me to see the number of people who, for one reason or another, did not have the resources that so many of us take for granted,” she said.

Although Tiffany has only been on the job for a few months, she is thrilled to be part of CADF team.  “Our patients are so thankful and grateful
that there are people out there who care and want to help them,” she said.

For more information on volunteering with the DDS program, contact Tiffany at 512-578-9402.   Click above to watch a video testimonial from one of our grateful DDS patients.

Thank YOU St. Vincent de Paul Volunteers

The Capital Area Dental Foundation administers four programs that bring dental care to low-income Central Texans who have no where else to turn.
One of these programs is our partnership with St. Vincent de Paul, which matches CADF dentists with adults in need of emergency dental care to provide relief of pain, infection or other emergent issues.
CADF would like to thank the following dentists for volunteering their time and services during the month of May.
A heartfelt thanks to you and your staff on behalf of your patients to the following dentists:
Dr. Kazmer
Dr. Garza
Dr. Shedlosky
Dr. Cavaretta
Dr. Stan La Croix

CADF Welcomes Program Coordinator Charlotte Laguna

Charlotte Laguna

Charlotte Laguna joined CADF in January 2012 as a Program Coordinator.  She oversees the Central Health and HAAM dental programs and works with Spanish-speaking patients in the St. Vincent De Paul program.

A recent transplant to Austin from Chicago, Charlotte previously worked in psychology and neuroscience laboratories at the University of Illinois.  Here’s what she had to say about the rewards of her new position and the amazing dentists that make it all possible:

What is your favorite part about your job at CADF?

I love being able to provide patients in need with a referral to a dentist who I know will provide the very best care. I also enjoy getting to know the HAAM and Central Health patients.

How do patients benefit from CADF programs?

Our patients are incredibly grateful and often share with me the details of how the dental care has changed their lives. Just a few days ago, one of our DDS patients called to tell me how much she appreciated everything we were doing. Her treatment wasn’t even completed and she was in tears. Our amazing volunteer dentists had extracted several of her broken teeth and provided her with dentures. She was able to eat solid foods again, something she hadn’t done in a very long time.  When she told me about how much she enjoyed a meal with her grandchildren, I was overjoyed and I know none of it would have been possible without are devoted volunteers.
