On Friday December 14, the Capital Area Dental Foundation was publically recognized, along with other donors, for participating in this year’s Season of Caring charitable giving campaign.  Sponsored by the Austin American-Statesman, Season of Caring is a community-wide effort that not only provides life-changing assistance to 12 deserving local families, but also shines the spotlight on the impact of volunteerism and charitable giving in the Greater Austin area.

For many of us, going to the dentist is something we take for granted.  But for thousands of families in Central Texas, dental care is something they simply can’t afford.  As a result, small, preventible dental problems can become more serious and painful.

As a dedicated supporter, volunteer and friend of the Capital Area Dental Foundation, there are so many ways you can help us continue to serve more Central Texans in desperate need of oral health care.  Central Texans like Brandi Brewer, a young mother of three who was featured in a heart-warming article published in the Austin American-Statesman on Thanksgiving Day.  Teaming up with the Season of Caring charitable campaign, CADF helped this mother of three get back on her feet after suffering from debilitating headaches, constant pain and low self-esteem that stemmed from major dental problems.

Today is #Giving Tuesday and we can think of no better time to ask you to take a few minutes to open your hearts and yes, your wallets.  Here are three easy things you can do today that will make a difference in the life of Central Texans in need of dental care.

1. If you are a dentist, sign up as to provide dental care to an elderly or disabled Texan through the Healthy Smiles for Texans.  Contact Tiffany Teague at (512) 584-3256 for more information about volunteering for this amazing program.
2. Go online at www.capitalareadentalfoundation.org and click on DONATE to make a gift to the CADF.  Your gift will be put to work immediately to help connect low-income Central Texans with volunteer dentists.
3. Sponsor the CADF Gala(Saturday, February 16^th at Four Seasons Hotel Austin).  Or if you prefer, buy a table for you and your friends.  You won’t find a better party for a better cause.

Last year, the Capital Area Dental Foundation participated for the first time in the  Austin American-Statesman’s Season of Caring charitable giving campaign–which has helped thousands of struggling families since 1999.

As part of Season of Caring, CADF chairman, Dr. Kavin Kelp and oral surgeon, Dr. Vincent Cavaretta provided thousands of dollars of free dental care to a 27-year old mother of three named Brandi Brewer.  Brandi, who lost her home to the wildfires in Bastrop, suffered from debilitating headaches prior to her treatment and was too ashamed to smile or show her mouth during job interviews.  Today, Brandi is all smiles.  She will be an honored guest at CADF’s Annual Gala this year on February 16, 2013 at the Four Seasons Austin.
