Share some Goodwill!

When most of us get ready for a job interview, we focus on the questions that might be asked and how to best respond.  But for many Central Texas jobseekers, a top concern is: “How can I hide my teeth?” or “Will the interviewer understand me?”

Dental problems pose a significant barrier to finding a job, so CADF and Goodwill Central Texas have partnered up to identify and care for individuals who need major dental treatment to eliminate pain, gain confidence and advance their careers.

The pilot program is well underway.  So far, nine amazing dentists have signed up to provide charitable care to seven hard-working individuals who are part of Goodwill’s highly-respected job training program.

CADF is looking for several more volunteer dentists to take new cases.  As a Goodwill volunteer, you will have the chance to truly touch someone’s life and give them the confidence they need to find the job of their dreams.

For more information about how you can volunteer, please contact Lisa Apfelberg at 512-992-1217 or l.apfelberg@capitalareadentalfoundation.org.

A Cure for the Humdrums!

In 2013, CADF volunteers provided charitable dental care to over 700 patients. But, did you know that care was delivered by only 50 dentists?

CADF needs your help to keep serving the hundreds of patients who sign up for our four programs.  Whether you have the time to treat one patient a month or one patient a year, you can change someone else’s life for the better, not to mention your own!

To learn more about CADF volunteer opportunities, please contact Meg Hulse today at (512) 578-9402 or m.hulse@capitalareadentalfoundation.org

Did YOU Make the List?

The Capital Dental Foundation connects patients who desperately need dental care with volunteer dentists willing to provide that compassionate care.  Without our volunteer dentists, CADF could never achieve its charitable mission.

Thank you to the following CADF dentists who have stepped up during the past three months to give back to the community by donating their time and expertise to help people live fuller, healthier lives.

Behind the Scenes of the 2014 Gala

The Capital Area Dental Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Great Gatsby Gala & Casino, is less than two months away.  The Annual Gala is always a fabulous party, but it also helps CADF raise the funds it needs to provide charitable dental care to hundreds of people in need.

The Capital Area Dental Foundation’s Gala Committee, led by co-chairs, Alan Moore and Melinda Perrier, have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure that the Gala is not only a financial success, but also a night to remember.  No detail is too small.  Whether it’s the menu, wine, entertainment or décor, Alan and Melinda, along with their support team, are involved.

Alan Moore is a general dentist and longtime CADF supporter who served last year as chairman of the organization’s Communications Committee.  This year, Alan is not only serving as Gala co-chair, he is also CADF’s vice-chair.  Dr. Moore is active with Goodwill Austin and recently established a partnership with the organization to provide dental care to individuals in need.

Melinda Perrier joined the CADF Board of Trustees in 2012 and has been a tremendous asset.  She is the vice president of business banking at Region’s Bank and generously stepped into a leadership role with the Gala.

Thank you, Melinda and Alan for all your hard work and dedication!

If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, click here. We look forward to seeing you at the Gala, but rest assured, if you cannot attend, you can still make a donation to CADF and support our mission.

CADF Dentists Making a Difference in Season for Caring campaign

A few weeks ago, we announced that CADF is once again participating in the Austin American-Statesman’s Season for Caring campaign by helping deserving families with their dental needs.

One of the 12 featured families that CADF is helping is the Mandujano family.  The mother of three children, Agustina is a breast and thyroid cancer survivor who is living on a ranch with no indoor plumbing.  She is in need of dentures, while her children have general dental and orthodontic needs.

CADF treasurer, Dr. Stan LaCroix, has committed to helping the Mandujano Family with dental exams and denture needs, while Dr. Barry Rouch, CADF Communications & Outreach co-chair, is helping Agustina’s son with orthodontics.  Click here to learn more about the Mandujano Family and read the article that ran in last Friday’s Austin American-Statesman

A special thanks to all of our volunteer dentists and to CADF Program Director, Lisa Apfelberg, who is working hard to connect Season for Caring families to CADF dentists.

Capital Area Dental Foundation Featured in Today’s Austin American-Statesman

13_sfc-logo_vert_nosponsThe Capital Area Dental Foundation was prominently featured in today’s Austin American-Statesman for its life-changing work with the Season for Caring charitable campaign.

The article told the story of Season for Caring recipient, Bob Green, a 60-year old throat cancer survivor.  More than 30 rounds of radiation severely damaged Mr. Green’s teeth.  CADF volunteer dentist and former Development Committee Chairman, Dr. Kelly Keith, has volunteered to provide Mr. Green with a full set of dentures at absolutely no cost.  Mr. Green’s Season for Caring sponsor, the Foundation for the Homeless, will use about $700 worth of Season for Caring donations to cover the lab work required to create the dentures.   Dr. Keith is one of several CADF dentists who have stepped forward to volunteer their services to Season for Caring families.

Your generous and loyal support of CADF’s Annual Gala makes it possible for our growing foundation to participate in programs like Season for Caring and connect patients like Bob Green with dentists like Dr. Keith.

If you are interested in participating in the Season for Caring program or another charitable dental program, please contact Lisa Apfelberg, CADF Program Director at l.apfelberg@capitalareadentalfoundation.org or 512-971-8005.

Thank YOU 2014 Gala Sponsors!

Just two months away, the Capital Area Dental Foundation Great Gatsby Gala and Casino will undoubtedly be a night to remember.  Not only is the Gala our biggest fundraiser of the year, it offers an outstanding opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of oral health care and promote the life-changing work that CADF does in the community along with our many committed partners.

A heartfelt thanks to the following sponsors who have stepped forward to support the 2014 Gala.  Without your continued passion and support, CADF could simply not achieve its charitable mission and serve thousands of Central Texans in need every year. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
